When I first arrived at the office, the staff was exceptionally friendly and so upbeat.

There was a feeling that everyone was going to be all right even though I was due to have major oral surgery. The procedure was quick, or quicker than I anticipated and I was on my way back home. due to the proper medication, there was relatively little pain or discomfort. Dr. Neshat was very thoughtful and caring because he actually called me at home that evening to see how I was doing.

Gel for decayed teeth ‘could spell end to fillings’

French scientists said the gel works by prompting cells in teeth to start multiplying.

They claim that in laboratory studies it took just one month to restore teeth back to their original state.

A team of scientists at the National Institute for Health and Medical Research in Paris tested if melanocyte-stimulating hormone, or MSH, could stimulate tooth growth, according to the Daily Mail.

The French team mixed MSH with a chemical called poly-L-glutamic acid. The mixture was then turned into a gel and rubbed on to cells taken from extracted human teeth.

In a separate experiment, the scientists applied the gel to the teeth of mice with dental cavities.

In just one month, the cavities had disappeared. The gel is still undergoing testing but could be available for use within three to five years.

Their findings are published in the American Chemical Society journal ACS Nano.

“There are a lot of exciting developments in this field, of which this is one,” said Professor Damien Walmsley, the British Dental Association’s scientific adviser.

“It looks promising, but we will have to wait for the results to come back from clinical trials and its use will be restricted to treating small areas of dental decay.”

Tooth decay is a major public health problem in Britain with around £45m a year spent treating decayed teeth.

ABC’s Good Morning America aired a segment on Feb. 9 about zinc-containing denture cream http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/did-doctor-delay-denture-cream-research-12874317. Some previous reports in the scientific literature indicate a possible association between excessive use of zinc-containing denture creams and neurological and hematological problems. When this issue surfaced in the media a year ago, the ADA posted a press statement that more information is needed to determine if there is a cause and effect relationship between ill health effects and the overuse of denture cream containing zinc. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not issued an advisory or recall of zinc-containing denture creams at this time.

Police: Man dies after punch by Burger King worker

DETROIT – Detroit police say a 20-year-old Burger King employee who was arguing with a customer punched the 67-year-old man, who fell and later died.

Police spokeswoman Yvette Walker says the older man was reportedly causing a disturbance Thursday afternoon at the restaurant on the city’s east side, tried to hit the employee and the employee swung back. WJBK-TV reports police say the punch may have caused the elderly man to choke on his dentures.

The man died at a hospital. Walker says an autopsy will determine cause of death. Police say the employee was being held Friday and information would be submitted to prosecutors for review.

Burger King spokeswoman Denise Wilson said Friday that company officials were aware of the incident and the franchise owner was cooperating with police.
